    I was really happy with this and my six year old daughter has ...I was really happy with this and my six year old daughter has loved it. Just a few things I thought I'd mention. Yes, the scissors don't work, but we were able to sharpen them up a bit with the knife sharpener. And I think that the people who complained about the needles being too small probably just never used embroidery thread before (which is what is included in the kit) and didn't know that you are suppose to pull it apart and just use a single string at a time rather than trying to shove the whole bunch into the needle. At first she didn't seem interested so I didn't push it. After sitting on her shelf for a couple of months, she finally expressed an interest in learning to start to sew. Upon opening it and going thru everything we decided to get started on the basic pouch so she could get used to the simple steps.The instructions were not clear enough for a nine year old to understand without lots of help from an adult. I would like to have seen "kid friendly " instructions included so she could feel more successful.The thread was very hard to get through the eye of the needle that was included in this kit, so I gave her a needle with a larger eye, from my sewing kit.After the beginning project, she was able to complete the stuffed animal projects with a little to no assistance from me.Although I do not sew as a hobby, this was a good place for my grand daughter to start exploring the sewing world and I think shes hooked!3my 6 year old loves it!Purchased for my 6 yr old for Christmas. We opened it last night. It s adorable. Has everything in it that makes a little sewing kit and all supplies needed to make all kinds of little projects. With a little direction, she was able to sew a little decoration to go on the stuffed kitty she s making. It s something we can work on together, little bits at a time. She is a little too young to do any of the projects on her own. Definitely needs guidance. She loves it.5Sew cute!We received this as a gift for our daughter who is very interested in sewingg and creating things. It comes in a super cute little box. The box is just cardboard and doesn't look like it will hold up long, it's already tearing a bit on the he seem so we may be getting a real sewing box soon. It comes with a great selection of sewing staples, shown in pictures. Felt, stuffing, tools. It may have been more cost efficient to buy all the items seleratwly but this is convenient and comes with intructions to help teach sewing.4Wonderful improvements and a great all in one starter kit! My 10yr old had one of these years ago and I was so excited to see this updated version now that my middle daughter is 7. I love that they kept some of the same projects but added some fun new ones too...I'd say there were quite a few improvements made by adding different projects that require different skills, like sewing a drawstring pouch. My 7yr old opted to do the hedgehog pin cushion first. With a little guidance (from my 10yr old) she completed this completely stress free. I appreciate that the projects allow children room to improvise and make things their own vs following an exact step by step. It's the perfect balance between instruction and freedom for creativity. I really appreciate that this comes in a nice storage container for all the supplies and projects in progress. Definitely a winner! 5Cheap, flimsy, and soooo disappointing!My daughters wanted to start learning how to sew, and I loved the idea behind this product -- a fun, colorful looking kit, with small sewing projects included along with sewing essentials (needles, pins, measuring tape, pin cushion, etc.) However, the product itself was very cheap and extremely disappointing. I have purchased sewing materials from the dollar store that are far superior quality to these items. Although I don't mind the plastic thimble and the small, cheap scissors so much (since it is intended for small hands anyway), I do mind the fact that both the needle threader and one of the needles broke (in half!) the first day of use, as well as the fact that the measuring tape is simply made of paper! Yes, it also ripped (accidentally) and was ruined the first day. I was also disappointed with the box it comes in. Although it looked so cute online, it is really only a colorfully decorated cardboard box, and therefore, will not last. The lid does not stay open since there are no actual hinges to keep it open just a scored crease in the cardboard.If you are looking for a sew-and-be-done project (sew the included projects, and then throw the whole thing away when you are done), then you might like this. But this seemed fairly expensive for a set that was intended to be thrown out when you were done with the included projects. I, of course, bought this with the intention that this would be my child's first real sewing kit, and it definitely was not that. I ended up throwing the thing away once my children finished the included projects, and we went to a real sewing store and bought a real beginner sewing kit for literally half the cost of this item.1Pretty good sewing kit......This is a fairly good sewing kit for young kids. My grandchildren are 6 and 8 and they both loved them and were able to do the crafts with a bit of my assistance. The directions though are very very poor and incomplete. I suppose if I did not know how to sew at all; to instruct my grandchildren, it might have been a problem.The kit comes with nice quality felt for the animals and plenty of buttons and trim. HOWEVER, there is only enough stuffing for one of the animals. There are 3 to be made. The kit should include ample stuffing for all 3 animals!!!!The "thread" is actually 6 strand embroidery floss. It will not go through the needle. So we separated the 6 strands into 3 strands and then were able to thread the 3 through the needle. The kids couldn't do that part by themselves. It would be better if the thickness of the thread is able to go through the needle as is, without having to separate it.4Different Product ArrivedThe product arrived was not the same as stated in the description and photos. Instead I received a similar product with similar packaging, but manufactured by Kangaroo Manufacturing (pictures attached) and not ALEX Toys.1Great, with adult help.I bought this for my daughter who just turned seven. She loves the kit! The animals are adorable and the kit is good quality and great way to start a sewing kit to keep for years to come. The only downside, is that for younger child, an adult must be heavily involved so if you are planning to buy this for someone to keep her child busy, you need to know that. My daughter did some simple straight stitching, loved doing the stuffing and of course wanted to choose all of the accessorizing. But I did the bulk of the sewing and especially sewing on the little details, for example the dogs tongue and ear. A chopstick came in handy for stuffing the Narrow parts. Overall a great kit, but needs adult involvement I would say Until age 12? But also a great way to bond with a younger child and teach sewing skills. Photo of our creations attached! I think they are cuter in person than on the box!4Not kid friendlySo I love Alex products. I bought this sewing kit along with a couple of pet rocks you paint and an awesome Sting farm set for my one and a half year old. They were all gifts from grandma in heaven. They get these gifts right after Thanksgiving. My daughter was SUPER excited when she got rid and wanted to use it right away. She was quickly frustrated and disenchanted. It was impossible to thread. The thread is more like a thin yarn. It's very thick. I tried, my 16 year old tried and of course my 8 year old, who received the kit tried. We finally got it to thread with one of the threaders that come in the kit... And it broke the threader. Then the second threader broke when we tried the next project, making the pouch. In order to complete the pouch I pulled out my high quality threader..... Which also broke. Once all the threaders were broken it was the end of the kit. She basically did the test pattern on the yellow felt and them either side of the ribbon wholes for the pouch. Without something tonthread the needle with that yarn thread you can't do anything else. My daughter is super disappointed. How can she learn even the basics of sewing if she can't even learn to thread the needle on her own... If she can't thread the needle at all....1
