expecting it be awesome, but I got back and the crystals were ...I was stoked to make some crystals and I wanted to grow them on some seashells, well I probably didn't do this properly, cause I left out of town on vacation for 3 weeks, expecting it be awesome, but I got back and the crystals were all over the container, and I couldn't pull them or the seashells out. :/ If I do this again, I will rotate the shell every week to prevent everything from becoming a frozen crystal tundra. 3Very Disappointing WasteSeven days after closely following the directions we have a cup that looks exactly like it did seven days ago. We even used a thermometer to make sure the water was actually at 100 C (212 F). We stirred until the powder was fully dissolved, as instructed. Carefully placed the container on top of the refrigerator so it wouldn't be disturbed while 'thriving' in a warm environment. Extremely disappointed in these results...could have grown just as many crystals had I shredded the money paid for this kit and used the shred in place of the provided powder.Although the color mixing chart is a nice touch and would be awesome - *if* the kit worked.Bottom line: This is THE kit for you if you're into disappointed kiddos (however, enjoy being asked five billion times if anything has grown yet) and have money to burn. In which case, take that burned money and put it in boiling water, adding some color (for flair.) You will likely grow bigger crystals than you will with this kit. 1Waste of Money...does't work!This was a big waste of money. We waited 2 days with the cup on top the fridge as it stated in the directions and all we got was a hard flat crystal patty. My 8 year old son was so disappointed and so was I. Money down the drain. :( 1The end product also looks nothing like what is in the photo or on the boxThis contains powdered aluminum which is quite toxic and not something a child should be handling or in the vincinity of as there is risk of breathing the powder in.The end product also looks nothing like what is in the photo or on the box. It is just a rectangle. Also don't want my child to handle it due to the ingredients of the product.Not as it seems. 1Great science project!This kit is very cool to give to a kid for a science project. I bought one as an adult because it seemed fun for me as well. I followed the instructions and could see the crystal grow! It took mine about 2 weeks to get to a good size. It was a bit colder in the room than recommended so it took longer to grow (it being fall and all). The instructions were pretty clear and it has a good value as well. 4SUPER easy kit to grow crystals!This is a really neat kit that is easy to use. You boil water and add the solution that comes with this kit, pour it into the provided container and wait for the crystal to grow! It was very fun to see the crystals as they started growing and they ended up being as large as the container would let them grow. I bought the same set in blue for my husband since he likes this one so much. If you are interested in growing crystals, this is a great kit to start with! 5and then wait for the solution to cool to 104F before you add the coloring for this ...Follow the instructions closely. Measure accurate water volume and temperature and your crystal will grow. You HAVE to hit close to the right temperature of 212 listed, mix the solution, and then wait for the solution to cool to 104F before you add the coloring for this to work. This page claims that there are 3 "experiments". They only give you enough to grow one crystal in one dish but give you coloring agents that can dye a total of 3 crystals a multitude of crystals. This seems like they are trying to mislead you so i docked 2 points as this was the only reason I bought this product over others. 3Got a Giant Crystal in a Few DaysI got this for my 10 year old grandson who was visiting for a week. We started the crystal the first day he was here and put it on top of the refrigerator. After two days we could see a large crystal in the container, but we left it undisturbed for the remainder of the week. At the end of the week we had a large, (about 3 inches high) beautiful red crystal. I've done similar projects in the past and know that it is important to leave the container undisturbed until the crystal is fully grown. Also it grows much faster in a warm place. The top of the refrigerator is perfect because the warm air from the compressor blows up there, and it is much less likely to be disturbed than an area such as the kitchen counter. The price is perhaps a little high for just a bag of chemical and a plastic container, but it was worth it to me not to have to hunt these things down. 5Gorgeous!I followed the instructions ( I let it cool a little longer before moving it to final growing location ), and it turned out great. I had trouble figuring out which packet was what coloring, but the end result is still gorgeous. 5RecommendedIt worked! Not quite 5 stars because I wasn't sure whether it was working or not - the dark colored water made it impossible to see the crystal until we dumped it out. The crystal was probably done sooner but we waited over a week, afraid to dump it in case the crystal wasn't done growing. Anyway, the instructions were easy to follow and the final product is beautiful. My 8 year old niece enjoyed it. 4
