Customer Reviews

Stopped working; Horrible customer serviceThis was neat until the sound just stopped working properly after three months of mild use. My husband has now been going back-and-forth with LeapFrog's customer service for 2 months trying to get a replacement. They told us we had to deface the product in order to complete an exchange. We wrote all over it with permanent marker and they said it isn't enough? Pathetic and obnoxious. If you order one, just hope that it doesn't stop working, otherwise, you are out of luck/money spent. 1Price is great but look for the add ins to lower pricesThese were a much better deal on amazon than Walmart. They were 19.99 a piece on walmart.com and they didnt have the number set just the alphabet set. Amazon offered me a price of 14.99 each if I bought both so of course I went for it. My nephew had the alphabets when he was little and with me having a 1yr old and another due in Feb I try to get similar toys when possible to keep them from fighting later. LolI love the whole leapfrog series and will continue to buy them for my kids. They provide wholesome and educational entertainment at the same time. It's so hard to find way to teach those little minds and leapfrog makes my job as their mom a little but easier. 5Must buy for you little one. =)My child is right next to me as I type this review. He's so excited seeing it on the computer. lol I have to say this is a MUST HAVE for your little toddler. We bought this for my son for Christmas. Two weeks after him playing with it he knew every letter of the alphabet. He was 20 months at the time. Now he is a little over 2 years old. He mostly just plays with the magnetic letters and not so much the bus, but when he first got it the bus was a big deal. Anyways, I think it is a great way to help your toddler learn the alphabet. =)Also... the magnets are nice and strong, plus they are covered... no little magnet pieces falling out like other magnet letters. 5Great toy for a two-year old -- lots of fun with an educational elementI'm pretty much in love with this thing -- as is my son. He's been interested in letters since before he turned two, so I'm always on the lookout for ways to encourage him. Fridge magnets and flash cards had been fun, but I wanted a product that would a) help him make a stronger connection with the sounds the letters make and b) give me a break from "teaching" him. This set seemed perfect, since he likes to be in the kitchen with me while I'm cooking. And it's been an absolute hit. For starters, he loves buses and all manner of things that go, so the display is perfect for him. The letters are super easy to get in and out of the opening, so he doesn't need any help to operate it (he's two and a half). There is a good variety in the songs and sounds and sentences that play when he pops in a new letter.Since he started playing with it, he has seemed more aware of which words start with which letters. So it seems the toy is good for more than just fun!The only downside I see is that it can be a little difficult to understand some of the pronunciation (for example, Z, B, and D sound very similar, as do S and F). Since my son already knows the letters by sight, this isn't a big problem. But if I was hoping he'd be using the game to learn his letters, I could see there being a little bit of confusion. 4The product itself seems okay but I'm kind of disappointed at the words each letter representsThe product itself seems okay but I'm kind of disappointed at the words each letter represents. The words are related to cars and I think it'll be hard for toddlers to relate to. For example instead of saying something simple like A is for apple it says A is for Avenue. Instead of saying M is for mommy or even monkey, it says M is for motor. I was a bit let down but my daughter seems to like the upbeat music that comes with it. My son had the older version (9 years ago) and it was more effective in my opinion. It took a couple of drops within 24 hours of use and it held up so I'm happy about that. 3Highly disappointed I had something similar when my boys were little. They loved it and enjoyed learning their alphabet from the little songs and easy to use letter plates. When we were surprised to find out we were having another little person (with teenage boys in the house) I k ew this would be a great learning tool for my newest addition.Um, no. Not impressed. The first one that was shipped was missing a letter plate. It was quickly exchanged for a new product that had all the letters. The problem I am seeing (and had never seen with the version my boys had when they were little) is sometimes (a lot more than I would like to admit) the letter plate when placed on the pad, will sing a song for the WRONG LETTER. I am not kidding. Watch the video I posted!!My daughter will be playing with it, place a letter X and the toy will sing a song for another letter entirely. Once it was singing the song for M .I have since figured out that if you dont push it right from the center it plays the wrong song... I am disappointed as small children could EASILY be confused and learn the wrong letters and sounds.Isn t this the whole point of this toy? To help teach letters and their sounds?Knowing that I sound just like my mother and even, dare I say, my grandfather... they just dont make things like they used to. Doesnt last long and not concerned with quality.NOW I supervise my child when using this toy to insure she doesnt get confused or learn the wrong names and sounds for letters. 1Great tool for teaching the wrong letter sounds...I have five children, and have purchased a leap frog letter set for each of them as toddlers. This one, however, is defective. From the day we opened it, it has been switching letter sounds around. For instance, it pronounces the "t" sound for the letter "L", and the "s" sound for the letter "B". We ended up throwing it away because our two year old started learning the wrong letter sounds as a result. Pretty disappointed. 2Great for learning!I bought this for my twin girls when they were 18 months old and had to put it away for a while because all it was being used for was being tossed acrossed the room, etc. I recently brought it back out because they are 26 months old now. They are actually learning from it and aside from my more destructive twin occasionally still throwing the letters, actually playing with it. I recommend it if you have a child over the age of 2! 5I definitely didn't have any of the issues mentioned in the bad reviews.I definitely didn't have any of the issues mentioned in the bad reviews. I don't have issues with letter sounds and I don't mind the word choices, while they are odd, it's not a big deal. I don't use this tool as a teaching tool, more like entertainment while cooking. I also recommend an adult be present while being used so they can ensure the letters and sounds are being said properly. This would also make a great opportunity to introduce other words in their daily routines/likes that are associated with the letters.By all means, if letters are messed up or missing, return the item. But don't assume this as your only teaching tool without adult interaction and input.I also highly recommend Preschool Prep for teaching alpahbet, letter recognition and letter sounds. Once again, adult in put and interaction required. This is also a great tool for a your Toddler's gross motor skills, putting the letters in correctly and pressing the letters and the music all note button for sounds/songs. Your kid(s) can also line the letters up in the correct order, make words, digraphs, and blends. This 'toy' is so much more than letter sounds. 5Wrong letter and sound for each piece The letters do not produce the right sound. The letter a sings the D says.. none of them are right. Also the two volume setting produced two different letters for the same piece that s in in bus part. 1
