Customer Reviews

a derby must have. This putty saved the day when the car shattered and we lost a wheel. It works great over bar weights also. 3 rd place with a broke car. 5Four Stars Great to add weight with little amount! 4One Star Tungsten putty was completely dried out. 1Must have item for derby weigh in This stuff was essential at the weigh in for my son's pinewood derby car...was able to get it perfectly on weight, using their scale which was a little different than mine, by sticking a tiny bit of this putty on the bottom of the car.As using all of the allowed 5 ounces is the single most important factor in the cars speed, i will have this putty on hands every year we race. 5Pinecar putty rocks! I cut out a little too much wood out of my son's pine car derby car, so I needed to make weight somehow without sacrificing aerodynamics and weight placement. I would have to put a LOT of lead if I went that route. The putty fit the bill to a "T". 5Two Stars Did not stick well to our pinewood derby car. We had a difficult time getting it to work. 2Waste of money Totally dried out. Cracks and breaks into crumbles. Waste of money. 1We finished up the car pretty last minute I purchased this "putty" for a pinewood derby race and I did so through Amazon because I needed it quickly because the race was in three days. We finished up the car pretty last minute, and this was the last thing we needed for it. This came the day before the race, but my child was making some final touches on the car, and we figured we could just add this on when we were ready and everything would be great. The day of the race, I removed the putty from it's packaging, and looked on in shock when it crumbled into tons of pieces in my hand. I tried and tried to squish it together, and it did nothing... It just kept cracking and crumbling... Thankfully we had also purchased some of the Woodland Scenics solid metal derby weights that can be screwed in to a pre-drilled hole, because we could not figure out how to get the "putty" sand to do us any good... We ended up using play-dough to add the needed additional weight to the car (It didn't work perfectly, but was better than this stuff...) 1A staple in the PWD toolbox This is ideal for cars where there isn't a lot of body mass available for mounting traditional lead or tungsten weights. It can be divided into custom portions and molded to fit wherever you want it to go. If you have a very thin car where you can't mount enough weight to get the car to the desired weight, putty proves invaluable. It also has a secondary use on weigh-in day. If it turns out that your scale weighs heavier than the official Pack scale, you can easily add bits of putty to get the car up to the exact weight. Much easier than relying on stick-on lead weights, especially if you are fine tuning to a fraction of an ounce and all you have are 1 oz weights. It's something that has really turned into a staple in the PWD toolbox. 5Tungsten putty is great. I've helped 3 of my sons build pinewood derby cars and used everything from lead fishing weights, melted lead, tungsten metal plates etc. The putty is the best because you can easily shape it to whatever you want. My son's last car was a Hershey Chocolate Candy bar with a Hershey's kiss on top, I let my boy eat the chocolate kiss, formed the putty into the chocolate kiss shape, wrapped it with a real wrapper and hot glued it to the top of the car where it adjusted the balance of the car. You can easily remove just a little bit of putty (or a lot) at the race to fine tune your weight as needed for the 5oz rule. Would highly recommend this. 5
