Duncan QualityI bought this Duncan Pulse Yo Yo for the Operation Christmas Child shoe box program from the Samaritan's Purse. With the Duncan name I thought this would be a nice quality gift to put in their shoe box for Christmas gift giving. I thought a light up yo yo would be a little extra special for the child. I liked that the yo yo came with 2 extra batteries. I color of yo yo I received was red. The color is vivid and bright. I laid the entire packaging down, and the yo yo started working it's magic by lighting up. So pretty. I believe the child is going to like their yo yo. 5This is Good for Beginners and NovicesThis is Good for Beginners and Novices. I caught the yo-yo bug recently and wasn't very good at first. This yo-yo has a good balance, spin and sleep. It's also very easy to take apart or change string. I thought the lights would be gimmicky at first, but it actually adds some excitement as well as help you know when to pull it back. I brought my son one of these too and he loves it. The Duncan Pulse moves smoothly and retracts just as expected. You will have to purchase extra string because when the string starts to wear down it causes retraction issues as well as yoyoing problems. Just remember if you have problems or it is not smooth enough when you are using the yoyo...replace your string. The Duncan Pulse Yoyo won't be the issue. 5Not as describedBeware. The color you receive will be random- not as displayed. Was contacted by seller asking for feedback and when I responded with the issue regarding colors ( I wanted the clear ones), was informed that that it was not their responsibility. If you want the yoyo and do not care what color you get- it is perfectly fine. 2Fresh out of the box and ready to go.Started on a proyo at 11. Do impromptu shows when I'm out and about. I play with my proyo in lines everywhere-even at the airport, and people love it. I always considered myself relatively talented.Now, now I'm amazed at what I can do. This thing is a huge step up. We actually cut the string down too as it was way too long for even an adult of average height but EXTREMELY long for a child to use. 4Fun toy for my grandkids.This is a fun yo-yo, the first I've used in half a century. Yoyos of olde were wood and never had lights, but the lights are a great addition, as is the ball bearings spinner that keeps it spinning longer than the old ones. For the price, this is a great toy. I look forward to fighting with my grandson over who's going to play with it.As an afterthought, I bought a pack of replacement strings because the string needs to be trimmed shorter for little people (grandpas need longer ones) and because yoyo strings eventually get twisty knots in them and need to be replaced.UPDATE. I gave the yoyo to my grandson at the Thanksgiving 2018 gathering and was bemused to find how much his father, other grandfather, and other adults played with it. You definitely need the extra strings (Duncan-brand come in a pack with multiple colors) but I found you also need a SECOND YOYO so you can play it "with" the child at the same time, that is, so you can demonstrate and do tricks on yours, with your long yoyo string, at the same time the child learns to use it with his shorter one. The lights change colors and are brighter and more impressive when the yoyo spins at higher speeds, and they dim-out at low, whimpy speeds. You need to operate it competently for the lights to dazzle at maximum advantage.I found a number of very good instructional yoyo videos on YouTube that contain useful beginner tips and tricks ("walk the doggie", "rock the baby", etc.) and recommend checking them out yourself before demonstrating the yoyo to a child. It's better for them to be impressed, rather than you be embarrassed. Discard the packaging beforehand. View the videos and practice with it beforehand. Hand it to the child out of your pocket rather than out of the package. Bigger fun that way . . . 4Make sure you buy from Amazon!!!!I bought this product a few weeks ago and when I bought it I saw that an amazon vendor (not amazon itself) was offering it for a cheaper price than amazon was so I said what the heck it's amazon prime eligible so it HAS to be the same thing right? Man was I wrong. The yo-yo arrived damaged and in horrible condition. The yo-yo wouldn't sleep at all, made a weird rattling noise, and one of the sides barely lit up. After seeing if this was normal I found out it wasn't and that the yo-yo was probably broken/defective so I sent it back for a refund. After I got the refund I bought the yo-yo again but this time from amazon (it cost a little more) and it's worked out perfectly. Works just as good as any other ball bearing yo-yo (if not better) and it gives off an amazing light show. It even came in the color I was hoping for (I think it's random though) which was a very nice bonus. 5Great Light Display!Even though our 2nd oldest granddaughter can't do much more than drag it or swing it, she can spin it long enough to mesmerize herself with its light show. Therefore, it's well worth the money. Balance isn't the greatest, the return isn't consistent, it's oddly light - if you're looking to compete in competitions, this might not be your best bandalore. But for the price, for the fun, it's worth it. 4great quality. All my kids wanted oneThe first time we purchased, it was sold by Amazon. Fabulous yo-yo, great quality. All my kids wanted one, so I ordered 3 more, not noticing that the seller changed to stores123. These were very different yo-yos, although they still were called Duncan Pulse. The light-up action rarely worked, the string had to be attached the first time we used it, the yo-yo action was awful. The first one (sold by amazon) came with extra batteries, and was a fabulous yo-yo. Not the ones we got from stores123. So annoying when 2 different products are sold under the same listing. 2
